PhotoHunt: School

These photos were taken in New Zealand, where schools of old were probably not too different than they were here in the US (well, except maybe for the rules for teachers).  I remember the "cloak room."

PhotoHunt: Hot

Since we have so recently left the dog days of August, the weather is where my thoughts go when I think "hot." Here in New England, we are having a lovely spell of weather, so I dug into the file for a couple of shots taken on a fairly recent trip to the Arizona desert. It doesn't get much hotter than that.

PhotoHunt: Numerical

This was taken for PhotoHunt, where the theme this week is "numerical."  I despaired of finding anything numerical that was remotely interesting. And then I found this. Perfect!

PhotoHunt: Orange

There are images in nature that defy belief. Were one to paint them in oils, viewers would say, "Oh, that's not realistic." These are some orange things I found hard to believe, even when seeing them with my own eyes.

Oh, and scroll down two posts, and visit Homer P. Buckethead, who is the very portrait of orange!

PhotoHunt: Colorful

Is there anything more frustrating than such a colorful display of fresh fruits and veggies, and there you are without a kitchen?

And almost as bad? Fabulous flowers and no way to take them on the long flight home!

These photos were taken at the wonderful Pike's Place Market in Seattle. What I wouldn't give to have a public market like this near my home.  It's almost enough to make you want to move. Not quite, though. There's still that weather.

The theme at PhotoHunt this week is colorful and this is my first time playing.  How about you?  Never leave home without a camera?  Come join the fun!

Strangely Soothing

While sitting in a hospital waiting room recently while my daughter was in surgery, I was surprised to see something I've never seen before in a hospital. The door opened, and a woman entered, pushing a dolly in front of her.  You know, one of those upright cart things people use to move heavy objects around?  Well, this woman's heavy object was a harp. Yes, you read that right, a harp!

She spent a few moments setting up a music stand, opening her sheet music on it, and then placed the harp on her knees. It was some kind of mini-harp, not the big kind that sits on the floor.  But then she started to play, and the sound that filled the waiting room was big enough for me. I felt myself relax, and knew everything would be fine.  It felt a little like everyone in that waiting room breathed a collective sigh, and relaxed along with me.

After about 30 minutes of music, the harpist loaded her harp back on the cart, collapsed her music stand, and put it and her sheet music back in her bag.  Then she wheeled it all out the door again.

Off to her next gig, I guess.

When You're Smiling

When you're smiling
When you're smiling
The whole world smiles with you.
And when you're laughing
When you're laughing
The sun comes shinin' through.

Theme Thursday - Breakfast

This is a re-post of this picture, but in honor of the "Breakfast" theme on Theme Thursday, I just had to do it again.
